The Wire - Week 5

By Levi Ellis

It’s hard to believe that we are a quarter of the way through the fantasy season already but now that we’re here you should have a true assessment of your team and know where your strengths and weaknesses are. Your objective is find those weaknesses and improve them. There’s no easier way to do that then with the waiver wire and we’ve made it even easier for you with the best pickups for this week listed below.

All players are listed in priority order based on position.

Taylor Heinicke - 23/33 290 yards, 3tds, 5 carries, 43 yards - This kid continues to prove the moment isn’t too big for him and I love his weapons. 20% of your remaining faab budget.

Trey Lance - 9/18 157 yards, 2tds, 7 carries, 41 yards - If Garoppolo misses next week due to injury then Lance is a priority pickup, however he will be facing the Cardinals stout defense. His upside is just too great to pass up though. 20% of your remaining faab budget.

Daniel Jones - 28/40 402 yards, 2tds, 1 int, 4 carries, 27 yards - Jones has produced this year in fantasy but beware he has the Cowboys this week. 10% of your remaining faab budget.

Jacoby Brissett - 20/30 199 yards, 2tds, 3 carries, 8 yards - If you’re in a deep league and need a QB Brissett has filled in admirably but he does play the Bucs this week. 5% of your remaining faab budget.

Drew Lock - 12/21 113 yards, 1int - Lock is only worth looking at if Bridgewater misses this week. 3% of your remaining faab budget.

Damien Williams - 8 carries, 55 yards, 1td, 2 targets, 2 catches, 15 yards - A couple of big “If’s” on this one. If David Mongtomery misses time and if Damien Williams is healthy then he is a priority pickup. We have seen him flash for the Chiefs and the Bears like to run the football. 50% of your remaining faab budget.

James Conner - 18 carries, 50 yards, 2tds, 2 targets, 2 catches, 16 yards - He’s most likely owned but if not go grab this guy. He has been a perfect fit in Arizona. 50% of your remaining faab budget.

AJ Dillon - 15 carries, 81 yards, 1 target, 1 catch, 16 yards - If something happens to Aaron Jones this guy is going to be a RB2. He’s a must own handcuff and it’s hard to call him a handcuff when he gets 15 carries in a game which matched Jones in carries but he surpassed Jones in rushing yards. 35% of your remaining faab budget.

JD McKissic - 7 carries, 15 yards, 5 targets, 5 catches, 44 yards, 1td - He’s back and he came up big against the Falcons. He’s a ppr machine but the big question is will Gibson steal those targets when he’s fully healthy? 20% of your remaining faab budget.

Jeremy McNichols - 12 targets, 8 catches, 74 yards - I think McNichols value is at its peak right now with both AJ and Julio out so if one or both of these guys come back soon his target volume should drop considerably. 15% of your remaining faab budget.

Kenneth Gainwell - 3 carries, 31 yards, 1td, 8 targets, 6 catches, 58 yards - I love the talent but the Eagles are not running the ball much at all and they have the very talented Miles Sanders as well. Regardless of those concerns, Gainwell should be owned in all leagues. 15% of your remaining faab budget.

Rodney Smith - 5 targets, 5 catches, 48 yards - If you’re wondering who Rodney Smith is and what team he plays for that is understandable. Smith plays for the Panthers and while CMC is out, he appears to be the pass catching back in this offense. But he’s only worth owning while CMC is out. 10% of your remaining faab budget.

Darrell Williams - 10 carries, 42 yards, 1td, 2 targets, 2 catches, 16 yards - With all the talent on the Chiefs roster they still continue to use this guy. He’s a must own handcuff because if something happens to CEH he’s going to be important. 10% of your remaining faab budget.

Brandon Bolden - 1 carry, 0 yards, 6 targets, 6 catches, 51 yards - Right now he’s the James White replacement and he looked good in that role against the Bucs. 10% of your remaining faab budget.

Alex Collins - 10 carries, 44 yards, 1td, 2 targets, 2 catches, 34 yards - If Carson misses time Collins is a must own. He’s a very good NFL running back and very much under appreciated. 10% of your remaining faab budget.

Wayne Gallman - 6 carries, 29 yards, 1 target - Mike Davis has not impressed and Gallman got his first work of the season. Patterson is the player to own in this backfield but could Gallman soon be taking snaps away from Davis? 5% of your remaining faab budget.

Jamison Crowder - 9 targets, 7 catches, 61 yards, 1td - He’s likely owned in all leagues but if not scoop this guy up. He’s such a great player and he’s now healthy. 30% of your remaining faab budget.

Van Jefferson - 6 targets, 6 catches, 90 yards, 1td - I’m not sure how many targets he will get with guys like Kupp, Woods, Higbee and Henderson all hanging around but this guy is a playmaker and I expect him to be more involved as the season progresses. 20% of your remaining faab budget.

Kadarius Toney - 9 targets, 6 catches, 78 yards - With Slayton and Shephard both out they rookie Toney was involved and his target share was very impressive. 15% of your remaining faab budget.

AJ Green - 6 targets, 5 catches, 67 yards, 1td - I thought he was done too but he’s had multiple weeks now where he has been relevant. If he’s available he should be owned in this offense. 15% of your remaining faab budget.

Randall Cobb - 6 targets, 5 catches, 69 yards, 2tds - Cobb is back baby and he showed why Rodgers wanted him back so badly. If Cobb can stay healthy he’s likely to be the number two or three guy in targets moving forward. 15% of your remaining faab budget.

Quintez Cephus - 5 targets, 4 catches, 83 yards - Each week is a toss up in the Lions passing game but they will be playing from behind a lot of Cephus has shown his big play ability. 15% of your remaining faab budget.

Amon-Ra St.Brown - 8 targets, 6 catches, 70 yards - Amon-Ra is my favorite Lions WR long term and I think he’s also the most talented. As the season wears on I think we will all see that he’s the most talented and it will translate to production. 15% of your remaining faab budget.

Kalif Raymond - 6 targets, 3 catches, 46 yards, 2tds - Two weeks in a row Raymond has produced so he’s someone you should consider. 10% of your remaining faab budget.

Chester Rogers - 6 targets, 5 catches, 63 yards - If AJ and Julio are both still out he’s a must own guy. Rogers was legit in some big moments against the Jets. 10% of your remaining faab budget.

Josh Reynolds - 9 targets, 6 catches, 59 yards - Reynolds value also depends on if AJ and Julio miss more time. If so, he’s worth a pickup. 10% of your remaining faab budget.

Deonte Harris - 8 targets, 5 catches, 52 yards - Every week this kid is producing and his target volume has been impressive. 10% of your remaining faab budget.

John Ross - 4 targets, 3 catches, 77 yards, 1td - In his first game back Ross came up big time. As long as Slayton is out Ross will be the field stretcher in this offense. 10% of your remaining faab budget.

Cedrick Wilson - 2 targets, 2 catches, 30 yards, 1td - His target volume will be inconsistent but with Gallup out and one of the best QBs in the league you could do a lot worse. 5% of your remaining faab budget.

James Washington - 5 targets, 4 catches, 69 yards - If Claypool is out then Washington will have a role. 5% of your remaining faab budget.

Freddie Swain - 4 targets, 3 catches, 20 yards, 1td - This kid is worth keeping an eye on and if Lockett or Metcalf miss time this year he will be worth rolling out. 3% of your remaining faab budget.

Keelan Cole - 4 targets, 3 catches, 92 yards - I love this player but his fantasy value will always be up and down. Keep an eye on the matchups and the Jets WR health each week and anytime the stars align, roll him out. 1% of your remaining faab budget.

James Proche - 6 targets, 5 catches, 74 yards - I don’t expect him to have fantasy value from week to week but you can’t ignore this production. 1% of your remaining faab budget.

Dawson Knox - 8 targets, 5 catches, 37 yards, 2tds - Knox is quietly becoming one of the most fantasy relevant TEs in the league. He’s a must own in all leagues. 30% of your remaining faab budget.

Dalton Schultz - 8 targets, 6 catches, 58 yards, 1td - Schultz has proven he’s a starting TE in the league and now he’s proven that he can be a fantasy starting TE as well. 25% of your remaining faab budget.

CJ Uzomah - 6 targets, 5 catches, 95 yards, 2tds - Uzomah would be higher on this list but the Bengals offense is loaded with talent and I expect Tee Higgins to be back sooner rather than later. 20% of your remaining faab budget.

Maxx Williams - 5 targets, 5 catches, 66 yards, 1td - Another big week from Maxx so he can no longer be ignored. 15% of your remaining faab budget.

Cameron Brate - 6 targets, 2 catches, 29 yards - With Gronk likely to miss multiple weeks Brate has been thrusted into the starting role. Any TE that plays with Tom Brady is a TE that I have interest in. 10% of your remaining faab budget.

Ja’Wuan Johnson - 3 targets, 2 catches, 20 yards, 1td - He doesn’t get a lot of targets but Jamies looks for him in the redzone and that means something. 10% of your remaining faab budget.

Mo Allie-Cox - 5 targets, 3 catches, 42 yards, 2tds - This is a pure desperation play but you have to love the 2tds in his last game. 1% of your remaining faab budget.

Dead to Me (redraft leagues only)

All Texans not named Brandin Cooks

Jets run game - Yep, still dead! Carter got a TD last week but his 2.9 ypc was disappointing

Myles Gaskins - The milk cartons are being printed now

Ty’Son Williams - He was a healthy inactive this week while both Freeman and Bell suited up

Tony Jones Jr. - Hasn’t been involved and now he’s injured

DJ Chark - Going to the IR

Will Fuller - He really should start back on the PEDs, at least he stayed healthy then

Mecole Hardman - His involvement is just too inconsistent for me

Gabriel Davis - Still dead

Braxton Berrios - Crowder is back and Berrios is back to being a missing person

Adam Humphries - Samuel is back and McKissic is finally involved

Tyler Kroft - Why did we ever think this was going to be something

Evan Engram - Give it up already. He’s a better athlete than football player

Adam Trautman - So much for offseason hype

David Njokue/Harrison Bryant - Too many mouths to feed

Jack Doyle - I can’t do this back and forth business

Will Dissly - I wish the Seahawks would throw him the ball

Cole Kmet - Yes, he still plays for the Bears but you wouldn’t know because they don’t use him

Eric Ebron - But you didn’t need me to tell you this, right?

On Life Support

Jameis Winston - He was barely relevant against the Giants. Mic drop!

Miles Sanders - Two carries two weeks ago and only seven last week smh

Mike Davis - He has failed to live up to expectations and Patterson is lurking

Terrace Marshall - Robby Anderson is back from the dead

Brandon Aiyuk - Just when we thought he was finally involved and then he gets just 3 targets

Juju Smith-Schuster - I think he will be fine in time but when will that time be?

Tommy Tremble - It was just too soon

Anthony Firkser - I thought he would be more involved last week after returning from injury
