The Devy Bugle - Preseason Predictions and Bold Takes
REJOICE! After a long offseason of waiting and agonizing, we have once again reached another college football season. Week 0 is upon us and it is time for my Preseason predictions and Bold Takes…no matter how spicy. Let’s have some fun with this, shall we?
This All-American list is for whom I believe are high-end Devy assets. While others may have better odds of becoming AP All-Americans, the below have much better chances of having higher draft capital, thus are my DEVY ALL-AMERICANS.
DynastyProsTom’s 1st Team Devy All-American
QB - Caleb Williams, USC
RB - Braelon Allen, Wisconsin
RB - Raheim Sanders, Arkansas
WR - Marvin Harrison Jr., Ohio St.
WR - Malik Nabers, LSU
WR - Xavier Worthy, Texas
TE - Brock Bowers, Georgia
DynastyProsTom’s 2nd Team Devy All-American
QB - Joe Milton, Tennessee
RB - Quinshon Judkins, Ole Miss
RB - Trey Benson, Florida St.
WR - Emeka Egbuka, Ohio St.
WR - Troy Franklin, Oregon
WR - Devontez Walker, North Carolina
*Walker is currently awaiting eligibility waiver from NCAA*
TE - Mason Taylor, LSU
Predictions
Georgia has won back-to-back National Championships and they are the clear favorite to accomplish a Three-Peat, and I don’t plan on betting against them. Kirby Smart has his program rolling and I will not pick anyone to defeat them until I see that it is possible.
National Championship Playoff
1. Georgia Bulldogs vs 4. Washington Huskies 2. Ohio State Buckeyes vs 3. Florida State Seminoles
Winner
Both the Pac-12 and the Big 10 will have 2 national title contenders until the very end of the regular season. Undefeated Ohio State will defeat undefeated Michigan to solidify their spot in the four-team playoff. Washington will defeat USC in the Pac-12 Championship Game to earn their playoff spot. Georgia will defeat LSU in the SEC Championship Game to earn another playoff bid, after winning the SEC East by defeating Tennessee in November. Florida State will defeat LSU in Week 1 and run away with the ACC after defeating Clemson in September.
Heisman Trophy Winner and Finalists
Nobody has won consecutive Heisman Trophies since RB Archie Griffin won for Ohio State in 1974 and 1975. Can USC QB Caleb Williams achieve the feat in 2023?
Winner - QB Caleb Williams (USC)
Finalists - QB Joe Milton (Tennessee), TE Brock Bowers (Georgia), RB Braelon Allen (Wisconsin)
Bold Takes
Alabama will lose 3+ games in 2023. I 100% believe the Crimson Tide have a National Championship caliber roster…except for at Quarterback. No matter who Nick Saban names his starting QB for week 1, none of his options are good enough to lead them to a national title.
Treveyon Henderson, Nicholas Singleton, and Will Shipley will all run for less than 1,000 yards this season. Ohio State has too many mouths to feed in their backfield with Miyan Williams and Dallan Hayden around. Singleton will split carries with Kaytron Allen and QB Drew Allar is much more of a running threat than many people realize. Clemson will place more of a load on QB Cade Klubnik and RB Phil Mafah, causing Shipley to lose touches.
Tennessee QB Joe Milton will be a Heisman Finalist and Texas QB Quinn Ewers will be a Heisman candidate, as both will join USC QB Caleb Williams and UNC QB Drake Maye to become bonafide NFL Draft Top-10 picks.
