3 Fantasy Impacts: Calvin Ridley Signs With Titans

2 min read

Rumor has it Calvin Ridley was being courted by the New England Patriots and still in talks with the Jacksonville Jaguars when the Tennessee Titans swooped in with a 4-year, $92 million deal. Did I mention that includes $50 million guaranteed? In 2021, Calvin Ridley stepped away mid-season for mental health issues. He was suspended in 2022 for violating a gambling policy. He did, however, play all 17 games in the Jaguars 2023 season, catching 76 passes for 1,016 yards and eight touchdowns.

The room seems crowded, but is it really?

Calvin Ridley will join a wide receiver room that already seems somewhat crowded with DeAndre Hopkins, Treylon Burks, and Kyle Philips. Also joining the ranks, running back Tony Pollard. Obviously, Hopkins demands targets, and rightly so. Treylon Burks and Kyle Phillips? Not so much. Burks had 16 receptions for 221 years and Philips logged 15 receptions for 181 yards. Those stats are no match for what we know Ridley can bring to the table. And while the Patriots acknowledged losing out to such a large offer, they weren’t surprised saying “…he’s a really good player…”.

Treylon Burks wasn’t the guy.

If you were a Treylon Burks truther, hopefully, this move has you convinced that he’s not the guy. If you’ve had Calvin Ridley as a flex option, now is the time to bring him up on your roster, depending on your starting receiver situation. You might also consider a trade to a league mate who’s not in such a great situation. There is a case to be made that Calvin Ridley will be getting equal targets to Hopkins.

A new coach opens up new opportunities.

The Titans have a new coach in Brian Callahan. He helped to bring out the best in Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins. And looking at the price tag of Calvin Ridley, Callahan will surely want to do the same for him. Ridley ran the second-most outside routes than all receivers according to Rotoball. Perhaps Callahan will open up more opportunities in the slot for Ridley? I’m sure that’s something we’ll all be watching closely!
