D’Andre Swift Signing: 3 Fantasy Impacts

3 min read
D'Andre Swift has signed with the Chicago Bears. How does his arrival in the Windy city affect the fantasy value of everyone?

Big news on the first official day of the free agency period – the Chicago Bears have agreed to terms with running back D’Andre Swift for a three-year, $24 Million deal. Swift had a banner year with the Eagles this past season, so local fans will be sad to see him go. They’re not the only ones… fantasy football managers are also probably less than thrilled to hear this news.

Kenny Gainwell’s Dynasty Stock Rises

D’Andre Swift ended the 2023-2024 season with the Eagles, rushing for more than 1,000 yards and earning his first Pro Bowl selection. It’s wild to me that this is only Swift’s fourth year in the league. What’s also wild to me? Kenneth Gainwell is only 24 years old. Why does it feel like these guys have been in the league forever? Hold onto your Gainwell stocks or make a trade. Either way, acquiring Gainwell or trading on his new value will serve you well.

The Bears are Building a Championship Team

The Bears are far from a championship team, but that’s the goal in acquiring a talent like D’Andre Swift. There’s also been some turbulence in the Chicago quarterback room.

The Bears aren’t shy about saying they’ve been shopping quarterback Justin Fields around. Regardless of whether or not they manage to trade Fields, the Bears have the first-round 2024 NFL draft pick and will undoubtedly choose rookie quarterback Caleb Williams out of USC. This became even more apparent on Sunday, with Bears General Manager Ryan Poles signing veteran safety Kevin Byard to a two-year, $15 Million contract. Filling the safety role was a major need for the team this season. Having pieces of a good offense is key to success in fantasy football.

Swift Will Undoubtedly be the RB1

The addition of D’Andre Swift and a very talented rookie quarterback puts the Bears in a significantly better position than they were in seasons past. While many Bears fans hold tight to the notion that Fields is their quarterback, it’s clear that the organization doesn’t feel the same. However, these moves put dynasty fantasy football managers with Swift on their roster in a better position. Theoretically.

Regardless of the additional moves the Bears make, there’s no doubt that Swift will be their RB1. Dynasty managers can count on another very productive season, upwards of 1,000 rushing yards. With the talent they’ve already added, plus the coming of a quality franchise quarterback, it’s almost as if they’re building this team around D’Andre Swift. Also worthy of note is that this deal makes him the ninth-highest-paid running back in the NFL in terms of average annual value. It’s a blow to the values of Khalil Herbert and Roschon Johnson for fantasy.
