Devy Minute: Joe Milton
By Tommy Harvey
Joe Milton, QB, Tennessee
6’5 242lbs
RS-SR, 23 years old
Draft Eligible: 2024
Joe Milton was once a 4* recruit…way back in 2018. The former University of Michigan QB (completed his Bachelor’s degree in 3 years) eventually transferred to the University of Tennessee after his RS-SO season in 2021. In his first season at Tennessee, Milton began the season as the Vols starting QB, but was injured and relinquished the starting job to Hendon Hooker. Hooker would go on to hold on to the job for the remainder of the season and the 2022 season. Now, in 2023, Joe Milton is the unquestioned QB1 in Knoxville (completing his second Bachelor’s degree).
Bazooka Joe has one of…if not THE strongest arm I have ever seen. That is both a blessing and a detriment at times, as he has struggled with accuracy in the past, especially on deep balls. In 2021, Milton was regularly off target on deep passes. In 2022, Milton was able to harness his strong arm as the Vols backup QB. He took over as the Volunteer’s signal caller late in the season after Hooker tore his ACL, and went on to defeat Clemson in the Orange Bowl. As a veteran in Josh Heupel’s offense, Milton should be able to put up massive numbers.
While not currently considered a high-end NFL Draft prospect, Milton has all the tools to be an NFL Quarterback. He is an intelligent, strong-armed, mobile, freaky athletic mountain of a human being that NFL scouts will drool over as they get to see him more and more.
