Chase Edmonds: Buy or Sell?

By Bob Miller

Kenyan Drake is set to become a free agent after playing the 2020 season under the transition tag. He was responsible for 1,092 scrimmage yards and 10 total touchdowns, and it’s highly possible that Drake will not be returning to the Cardinals for 2021.

If that’s how things shake out, Cardinals head coach Kliff Kingsbury said he’s confident in Chase Edmonds‘ ability to take over as a full-time starter.

“As far as Chase goes, you’ve seen when he’s had his opportunity, he’s played at a starting running back level,” Kingsbury said during his Thursday press conference. “We all understand that he’s unfortunately been nicked up a couple times, which we want to keep him on the field. But we have all the confidence in the world in Chase and him being able to be the bell cow if that’s how this plays out.”

Edmonds is coming off his most productive season. He accounted for 850 yards from scrimmage, 448 rushing and 402 receiving. He also scored five total touchdowns. Most importantly he played all 16 games for Arizona, starting two of them.

Edmonds is heading into his contract year, so he should be extremely motivated to put together his most productive season yet.

Fantasy Advice:

My advice is to use this news to your advantage to sell high on Edmonds immediately. I see the Cards drafting a RB or picking up a veteran in free agency. Both could prevent Edmonds from putting up true bell cow RB numbers. Sell high on him to someone in your league who believes he will be the bell cow. I will be looking to acquire him on the cheap today (If I can) and look to flip him for a good rookie draft pick.
