2023 SF Rookie Mock Draft: Rounds 2 & 3

April 23, 2023 by Nick Young

We are just days away from the NFL Draft. we here at  DynastyPros gathered some other experts from around the industry and did a 3-round Superflex Rookie Mock Draft. It’s our final thought on these prospects before we actually know which team they will be playing for. This is rounds 2-3 of the mock.

Round 2

2.01 Josh Downs, WR, North Carolina

Thought about going tight end here at this pick but instead took the ceiling play with Downs. In the last two seasons at North Carolina, he has had over 190 catches and 2,000 yards receiving. Many will call him just a slot guy but he has the ability to play on the outside as well. If Downs can find himself in an elite offense he could be a sneaky PPR option.

- Kevin Coleman @daboys_22 - Football Guys

2.02 Hendon Hooker, QB, Tennessee

The cheapest time to acquire QBs is in your rookie draft. Getting one in the second round that could be a starter at some point feels like a steal. Sign me up.

- Andrew Hall @AndrewHallFF - FantasyPros

2.03 Israel Abanikanda, RB, Pittsburgh

College production- check. Fast 40 times- check. Good size- check. What’s not to like about Abanikanda? He had 20 rushing touchdowns last season. Tied for the most in college football. He ran a blistering 40 at his pro day. He’s 5’10’’, 216 lbs. If not for going to a small school and not working out at the combine he would be talked about as a surefire day 2 pick. He may still end up there.

- Dustin Ludke @theDunit13 - Dynasty Pros

2.04 Michael Mayer, TE, Notre Dame

Arguably the best TE in this class, Mayer at 2.04 is a steal and should be a top 10 dynasty TE.

- Nick Young - @youngstudff - DynastyPros

2.05 Dalton Kincaid, TE, Utah

Dalton Kincaid and Michael Mayer are in Tier 1 for this rookie TE class. Coming off of a season catching 70 balls for 890 receiving yards and eight TDs, it is clear Kincaiud can be utilized as a pass-catching TE at the next level which can certainly translate to fantasy football relevance. 1st round draft capital is in his future with a handful of juicy TE landing spots to take over as the team's TE1.

- Nick Skrip, @P2WFantasy, P2W Fantasy

2.06 Jalin Hyatt, WR, Tennessee

Hyatt is not the most polished Receiver, but he can run past almost anybody. At 2.06, he is well worth the pick.

- Tommy Harvey @dynastyprostom (Dynasty Pros)

2.07 Kendre Miller, RB, TCU

The third most talented back in the class in my opinion, just hoping for draft capitol

- Hutchinson Brown @hutchinsonb_ff  FootballGuys

2.08 Sean Tucker, RB, Syracuse

He is my 3rd ranked RB and so happy to get him in this spot. I think he can do a little of everything

- Brandon Haye @hayeb3   DLF

2.09 Tank Bigsby, RB, Auburn

Bigsby has been going up and down in mock drafts more than an amusement park roller coaster. He has the size and speed the NFL is looking for. Bigsby is good when he can make one cut turn upfield and find the gap. His vision, strength, and patience are attributes that will impress whoever drafts him. He at times tends to be too patient but they can be worked on. At this point of the draft, I would feel comfortable taking him here every single time.

-Mike H. @dropthemikeff  Dynasty Nerds

2.10 Devon Achane, RB, Texas A&M

His size may be an issue, but with his burst and home-run ability, Achane is a great pick in the late-2nd round for owners who are looking for a riskier prospect.

-Sam Waldorf @wherezwaldorf  Dynasty Pros

2.11 Marvin Mims, WR, Oklahoma

Well, I said Mims is comparable and cheaper, and here we are. Mims is actually my pre-draft WR3 and I don't see that changing much given it's very likely he is a Day 2 pick. He's a riser for many people, so still being able to get him at 2.11 also presents good value. Mims is essentially the discount Zay Flowers or Josh Downs, and a guy I have ranked higher than both. Mims has speed, YAC ability, good hands, physicality, and versatility. Had this pretend team not taken Spears at 1.11 and taken Zay Flowers instead, Zach Evans would be the pick here at a good value. I think I'm happier coming away with Spears/Mims than Flowers/Evans.

- Brian Ford @ffjunkie_  Going For 2 and Dynasty Fever

2.12 AT Perry, WR, Wake Forest

There aren't many WRs with both size and vertical prowess in this class. Perry is extremely athletic and possesses a ton of upside as an outside receiver in the NFL. Think Quentin Johnston if he was good at the catch point and could run more routes in the tree. Perry is still a well-kept secret…for now.

- Bo McBrayer @Bo_McBigTime FantasyPros

Round 3

3.01 Eric Gray, RB, Oklahoma

Eric Gray has been one of my values all off-season and that will continue in this draft. This might be a little early in terms of ADP but Gray has a skill set that allows him to be a three-down back in today's NFL. If he gets the Day 2 draft capital he is a player that will be drafted earlier than consensus.

- Kevin Coleman @daboys_22 Footballguys

3.02 Roschon Johnson, RB, Texas

Bijan's college teammate is also a stud, in case you hadn't heard. Getting a talent like Johnson in the early 3rd round just feels like a tremendous value given what's left on the board. If he gets Day 2 draft capital he could be in line for serious touches starting Week 1. Smash that draft button!

- Andrew Hall @AndrewHallFF  FantasyPros

3.03 Tank Dell, WR, Houston

I wish Tank Dell was a little bigger because I like what I saw on film. A solid route runner who can get open. He will be a slot guy at the next level and can use that running ability to present a clear target to his quarterback. He struggled with drops in college which isn’t great so you have to hope that he can fix that issue. It’s a dart throw here but I liked his hustle at the combine so I’m expecting him to put in the work to get better.

- Dustin Ludke @theDunit13  Dynasty Pros

3.04 Xavier Hutchinson, WR, Iowa State

I'm higher than most when it comes to Xavier Hutchinson. Coming from a weaker offense like Iowa State, he was their focal point tallying 1100 yards and 6 touchdowns this past season. He will be a 3rd-4th round pick but definitely should be on your fantasy radar at this spot.

- Nick Young @youngstudff  Dynasty Pros

3.05 Kayshon Boutte, WR, LSU

Kayshon Boutte caught people's attention as a freshman at LSU totaling 735 yards that season. Many regarded Boutte highly as a future NFL asset, but many factors have impacted his outlook, the combine being the example. A controversial prospect who is likely boom or bust, I think there can be future FLEX appeal for Boutte for fantasy football pending his draft capital, landing spot, and commitment to the game.

- Nick Skrip @p2wfantasy  P2W Fantasy

3.06 Cedric Tillman, WR, Tennessee

I'm a sucker for Tennessee WRs, and one of them is likely to hit in the NFL. Tillman is a much more well-rounded WR than his Vol teammate Jalin Hyatt and is more NFL-ready due to his ability to play physically and get the 50-50 balls.

- Tommy Harvey @dynastyprostom  Dynasty Pros

3.07 Darnell Washington, TE, Georgia

His athletic profile is not human-like, if he can develop a bit as a receiver he has so much potential. Could easily end up being the best tight end in this class.

- Hutchinson Brown @hutchinsonb_ff  FootballGuys

3.08 Zach Evans, RB, Ole Miss

I cannot believe that Zach Evans is still available. He has had some injuries and some weird off-the-field type things but he is so talented and I think he is a player that will be better in NFL than in college. Which would be something since he averaged over 6 yards a carry each year.

- Brandon Haye @hayeb3   DLF

3.09 Dewayne McBride, RB, UAB

McBride in college was one of the most productive running backs, rushing for 1713 and scoring 19 TD. Yes, it was against lesser competition being from a G5 conference. He has the power and natural athletic instincts that you need in the NFL. He rarely goes down on first contact and this definitely a plus. In college, he was non-existent in the passing game which is definitely a negative. But at 3.09, if a team is willing to take a chance on him in the mid rounds so will I in my rookie drafts.

-Mike H. @dropthemikeff  Dynasty Nerds

3.10 Rakim Jarrett, WR, Maryland

Jarrett had the athletic profile but lacks some of the refined route running necessary to succeed. If he can improve in that category this will be a great upside pick late in the 3rd round of rookie drafts.

-Sam Waldorf @wherezwaldorf  Dynasty Pros

3.11 Sam LaPorta, TE, Iowa

There were some very surprising (to me) picks made in the 2nd and 3rd rounds, making LaPorta at the 3.11 in a tight-end premium a very solid value. LaPorta, who is my TE4, reflects the tight end class in general: smaller and more athletic than past classes - which could be a trend moving forward. Especially when you calibrate for Iowa's bad offense and their history of producing good tight ends, LaPorta makes a lot of sense here. He is versatile, well-rounded, and pro-ready. In the 3rd and 4th rounds, you want to pound RB and value TEs. Rookie tight ends often lose value in their first year or so, so you want to get a good bang for your buck. LaPorta at 3.11 is the perfect fit for that. Luke Musgrave would be another good pick. Had I taken Darnell Washington at 2.11, Chase Brown, Rahsee Rice, Jayden Reed, or Jonathan Mingo would all be solid value options here.

- Brian Ford @ffjunkie_  Going For 2 and Dynasty Fever

3.12 Evan Hull, RB, Northwestern

Although this is a very deep and talented RB class, very few of the prospects check EVERY box like Evan Hull. He combines prototypical size with good speed, contact balance, and receiving ability. He can be a three-down player in the league who isn't necessarily landing spot dependent.

- Bo McBrayer @Bo_McBigTime  FantasyPros

2023 SF Rookie Mock Draft: Round 1

April 22, 2023 by Nick Young

We are just days away from the NFL Draft. we here at  DynastyPros gathered some other experts from around the industry and did a 3-round Superflex Rookie Mock Draft. It’s our final thought on these prospects before we actually know which team they will be playing for. This is just round 1 with rounds 2-3 being released next.

1.01 Bijan Robinson RB, Texas

For the second consecutive season, a non-QB is being drafted as the 1.01 in Superflex drafts. Robinson is already being valued as a top-5 dynasty asset and looks to be an immediate impact player at the position.

(Kevin Coleman – @daboys_22 – Footballguys)

1.02 Bryce Young, QB, Alabama

Smash pick for me in SF at the 1.02. Very likely starting day one on a team that has better weapons than expected. Could be a blue-chip prospect in a terrific draft class.

(Andrew Hall – @AndrewHallFF – FantasyPros)

1.03 C.J. Stroud, QB, Ohio State

No need for a clock on this pick. It’s instant the moment I see him available. He’s my top QB in the draft. He has the size and college production to be that. His draft capital might slip a little but not enough for me to be off of him. He didn’t show the rushing upside in college but it can come out when needed. Ball placement and decision-making are key at the next level and he’s got it.

(Dustin Ludke – @theDunit13 – DynastyPros)

1.04 Jahmyr Gibbs, RB, Alabama

At this pick in the draft, it’s highly unlikely your team needs to reach for a Quarterback. Why not take the RB2 of this draft class? Gibbs is a dual-threat running back in the fact that he will get you not just rushing yards and rushing touchdowns but he can also be effective in the passing game after accumulating 444 receiving yards and 3 touchdowns. I see a lot of Alvin Kamara’s characteristics in Gibbs.

(Nick Young – @youngstudff – DynastyPros)

1.05 Jaxon Smith-Njigba, WR, Ohio State

Heading into the NFL Draft, Jaxon Smith-Njigba is the consensus WR1 of the class with clearly porjected 1st round draft capital after smoking the combine. JSN had a massive 2021 season with both Garrett Wilson and Chris Olave on the roster ranking #3 in receiving yards (1,606), T-#9 in receptions (95), and averaging 123.54 yards per game. Even with some regression in 2022, JSN has future Top 12 Dynasty WR written all over him which makes him an easy selection for me.

(Nick Skrip – @P2WFantasy – P2W)

1.06 Zach Charbonnet, RB, UCLA

With a few WRs left on the board and I’m not sold on Levis or Richardson, my brain narrowed to 2 guys here…Zach Charbonnet and Hendon Hooker. There is a pretty big tier break at RB after Charbonnet, so I did not want to let him slip past me here.

(Tommy Harvey – @DynastyProsTom – Dynasty Pros)

1.07 Anthony Richardson, QB, Florida

The highest upside of any player in this entire draft, him being available at the 1.07 its a no-brainer to take him here.

(Hutchinson Brown – @hutchinsonb_ff – Football Guys)

1.08  Quentin Johnston, WR, TCU

Have questions about him still but the talent is undeniable. After a 1000+ yard season and 6 touchdowns to cap off his time with TCU, Johnston has the potential to be an Alpha WR1 in the league.

(Brandon Haye – @HayeB3 – DLF)

1.09 Will Levis, QB, Kentucky

Will Levis is probably the most polarizing prospect in this year’s draft. He has a lot of unknowns and things to work on, but if he gets top-10 draft capital he is a must-draft at this point in Superflex drafts. He has great size coming in at 6’4″ and 229 lbs and has one of the strongest arms in this draft class. The problem is a strong arm doesn’t guarantee success. Levis is definitely not a complete prospect. But as a QB his value will be high this late in drafts.

(Mike Hicks – @dropthemikeFF  – DynastyNerds)

1.10 Jordan Addison, WR, USC

Great route runners will always be successful in the NFL. Even though I think Addison profiles more as a number 2, this is a great pick in the back end of round 1.

(Sam Waldorf – @WherezWaldorf – Dynasty Pros)

1.11 Tyjae Spears, RB, Tulane

After the NFL Draft, at least one of the running backs currently clustered in the 2nd round of Superflex mock drafts is going to float up to the late 1st. So here I took my guy, my RB4 Tyjae Spears, who will likely get late Day 2 capital, rather than a wide receiver with question marks like Zay Flowers, especially when you can get a comparable player like Marvin Mims at a much better value later.

(Brian Ford – @ffjunkie_ – Going For 2 and Dynasty Fever)

1.12 Zay Flowers, WR, Boston College

Where he lacks the ideal size to be a dominant X receiver in the NFL, Flowers makes up for it in tenacity and sheer skill. Can play X, Z, or slot. Flowers wins at the catch point and is an explosive YAC monster.

(Bo McBrayer – @Bo_McBigTime – FantasyPros)

Fantasy Impact: Derek Carr

March 6, 2023 by Nick Young

Fantasy Impact: Derek Carr

By Nick Young

Quarterback Derek Carr signed ealier today with the New Orleans Saints for 4 years $150 million. This comes after being released by the Las Vegas Raiders last month. I'm here to give you my thoughts on how this will impact the Saints' position players and their fantasy production.

Credit: McManusDesign

This is, by and large a major boost to the Saints offense as they struggled with Andy Dalton at the helm. In Davante Adams first year with the Raiders and Carr, he eclipsed 1500 receiving yards and hauled in 14 touchdowns and a WR1 in all fantasy formats, the Saints offense should see an increase in fantasy relevancy. Let's take a look at a few players, and how I see this impacting their fantasy production moving forward:

Alvin Kamara

Running back Alvin Kamara’s status with the Saints remains up in the air as his criminal case is still in flux. With that in mind I don’t expect much to change for Kamara on the offense. While Kamara is known for his receiving ability, Derek Carr doesn’t have a reputation for his running backs to have a big part in the receiving game. This past season while Josh Jacobs had 1600 rushing yards, he only had 400 receiving yards which was his career highest. Since Drew Brees has retired, Kamara hasn’t seen more than 450 receiving yards. Kamara was RB16 this past season and I don’t expect that to change unless the Saints also address their offensive line issues.

Chris Olave

Saints’ rookie sensation Chris Olave showed why he was a first-round draft pick this past year by breaking the 1,000-yard mark in his first season with shaky play overall from the offense. Olave had an average depth of target of 14 yards this past season and while Carr is not known for throwing the ball deep (11 yards per target average), it can still be expected that Olave will show a consistency of 1,000-yard seasons. Olave was the WR25 this past season according to player profiler, and I expect him to break the WR20 barrier with the increase in quarterback play.

Michael Thomas

Credit: Christopher Hanewinckel-USA TODAY Sports

Injuries continue to plague Michael Thomas as he played in only 3 games this past season and a total of 10 in the past three seasons. It remains to be seen if he still has the playmaking ability that he showed in the beginning of his career. If he does stay with the Saints and is cleared, he will be nothing more than a low end WR2 at best.

Juwan Johnson

The 2022 TE15 Juwan Johnson showed flashes of playmaking ability with Andy Dalton at the helm, and I expect him to see the biggest improvement with Derek Carr coming in. Derek had a major connection with his previous tight end in Darren Waller which resulted in Waller being a TE1 consistently and a top 5 tight end in fantasy for the past few years. If Johnson builds this connection with Carr, I can see him rising a few spots in fantasy to the TE11-13 range with a ceiling of TE10.

Overall, the Saints offense see a huge upgrade with Derek Carr at the helm and if they use their draft pricks on shoring the offensive line and bringing in another wide receiver. The majority of the players should be more fantasy relevant.

Top Free Agents Part 1: Quarterback

February 17, 2023 by Nick Young

Top Free Agents Part I: Quarterback

By Nick Young

With the 22-23 NFL season at a close, it is almost time to turn to free agency and where we see the big names to land. Here I list my top 3 at each significant position and my top three landing spots for each.

Quarterback

Lamar Jackson

Possible landing spots: BAL, ATL, NYJ, LV

Lamar Jackson is easily the best QB on this list, and honestly, it’s hard to imagine him going elsewhere than Baltimore. There is speculation that Jackson could move on from Baltimore because they haven’t signed him to a long-term contract. However, the Ravens are in a better position to pursue him and will have a healthy squad to chase a playoff run in 23’. When free agency rolls around, Jackson will be Baltimore’s QB1 under the Franchise Tag or a long-term contract. With Jackson being the best quarterback on the market and consistently being a tier-1 quarterback when healthy, expect him to attempt a market resetting contract higher than Deshaun Watson.

Derek Carr

Possible landing spots: NO, CAR, TENN, NYJ

The Derek Carr and Raiders saga is coming to a close as Carr won't waive his no-trade clause and force the Raiders to release him, which will incur a $40,000,000 cap hit. Carr won’t see a shortage of suitors, as he has already met with the Saints while exploring his trade options. The Saints will be my first choice for Carr, as there will be many weapons for him in the form of Alvin Kamara, Chris Olave, and a surprising weapon Juwan Johnson. However, Carolina and Tennessee are coming in hot as potential suitors and could be in the mix. Tennessee needs a veteran mentor for Malik Willis as it appears this is Ryan Tannehill’s last season with the Titans, and Carolina will be looking to start over under new HC Frank Reich. Carr will be looking for a market resetting contract, and his suitors will do anything to reach him. Expect him to get a shorter length in the range of 3-4 years, but with an average of $45 million.

Jimmy Garoppolo

Possible landing spots: TENN, NO, CAR, NYJ, LV

Oh, Jimmy G, oh Jimmy G, my heart belongs to Jimmy G. Easily my favorite quarterback on this list. San Francisco will be moving on from the and moving forward with Brock Purdy and Trey Lance. The quarterback market won't be as strong this year as not many teams will be looking for a QB1. However, a squad that isn’t far from a playoff stint like the Tennessee Titans could pursue Garoppolo on a team-friendly deal and give Malik Willis the mentorship he needs after being benched for third-string quarterback Josh Dobbs. I expect Garoppolo will get a middle-of-the-road deal similar to Matt Ryan’s deal with the Colts at an average of $30,000,000/year.
