2024 Rookie Dynasty Impact: Xavier Worthy

4 min read

The 2024 NFL Draft is finally here, and the first few picks were as many thought, with the top three quarterbacks and Marvin Harrison beginning the first round. The first round was dominated by offensive players and seven wide receivers were selected. One of the more intriguing landing spots was Xavier Worthy being teamed up with Patrick Mahomes.

In this Rookie Dynasty Impact, I will analyze Worthy’s impact on his new team, the Kansas City Chiefs, and how best to approach trying to roster his services.

2024 Rookie Dynasty Impact: Xavier Worthy

Does Mahomes have his Tyreek Hill replacement now?

I know the Chiefs have won back-to-back Super Bowls, but the offense does not have consistency or explosion without Tyreek Hill. Star tight end, Travis Kelce, looks to be starting to slow down. Rashee Rice showed promise, but there may be a suspension coming. The addition of Hollywood Brown should help, but Worthy provides a speed element that the Chiefs have been looking for.

Worthy went to Texas and made an instant impact. He had 62 catches for 981 yards and 12 touchdowns in 2021. There was a little bit of a down year in 2022 with only 59 catches for 781 yards, but in his last year of college, Worthy had his best year and finally was able to eclipse the 1,000-yard mark.

The Chiefs are great at scheming players open, and Worthy has the versatility to be lined up everywhere. For his career he lined up in the slot 31% of the time compared to out wide 69% of the time. Worthy is not yet as good at the deep game as Hill.

Only 19% of Xavier Worthy’s targets in 2023 were 20 or more yards down the field. The one great thing is his ability to separate, and he only had a 7% drop rate in his career at Texas.

The great thing for Worthy is that he does not have to be the top option for the Chiefs right away. Brown will be the deep threat, so Worthy can continue to get better at tracking the ball down the field on deep passes. One thing Worthy will be able to do right away is the short passing game and getting yards after the catch. I am very interested in how all the weapons will be deployed in Kansas City this year.

How high is Xavier Worthy’s Dynasty Stock?

I thought that Worthy would be a great pick for the Chiefs pre-draft, but I just did not know if he would go in the first round. Well, he got the draft capital and is teamed up with the best quarterback in the NFL. Obviously, there are the top three receivers: Marvin Harrison Jr, Malik Nabers, and Rome Odunze. I think with the landing spot, I would put Worthy as the fourth receiver, based on his landing spot.

What is Worthy’s Rookie Draft Status?

The format is critical to any rookie draft, as well as how to best approach ranking players.

If you are in a one QB league, I would take Xavier Worthy as a top-five or six pick. That would depend on the need at quarterback because I think Caleb Williams is set up to have tremendous fantasy success.

If you are in a 2 QB/Superflex league, the top of the draft should be Caleb Williams, Jayden Daniels, Drake, Maye, Marvin Harrison Jr, Malik Nabers, and Rome Odunze. There will be a variation in order, but the pick after the top six is really where it gets interesting. For me, it would be either Brock Bowers or Xavier Worthy next, but if someone really is quarterback-needy, they could reach for Bo Nix or J.J McCarthy.

In all formats, Worthy has cemented his spot as a first-round pick in your rookie drafts. I think his value should now be in the top 8 picks of any format.

Trade Ideas

Worthy’s value has increased since his landing spot with the Kansas City Chiefs. Below are two ideas I like on the Worthy side in our Dynasty Pros Trade Calculator

There are some people who still like Jameson Williams, and I think he started playing better near the end of the season last year. Worthy has the higher upside and the better quarterback. So, I would gladly send out a late 2nd along with Williams to acquire Xavier Worthy.

I don’t believe there will be a strong decrease in Nico Collins as others do, but he will most likely not get the targets he did last year. The Texans should have a better running game and recently added Stefon Diggs. The three-headed wide receiver monster they have created will be better for NFL success than all three having fantasy success.

I like this deal as you get Worthy and a potential top-two receiver with the Jaguars for at least a year or two until Brian Thomas eventually takes over. This will especially work for managers who think Worthy would be the third or fourth option on Chiefs for a year or two.
