2024 Rookie Dynasty Impact: Xavier Legette

4 min read

Now that the 2024 NFL Draft has concluded, we have a better view of how franchises are going and how they see players fitting on their teams. From the surprise selection of Michael Penix to the dramatic fall of Troy Franklin, fantasy managers now have to review the results and prepare for Rookie Drafts.

In this Rookie Dynasty Impact, I will analyze Xavier Legette‘s impact on his new team, the Carolina Panthers, and how best to approach trying to roster his services.

2024 Rookie Dynasty Impact: Xavier Legette

How does the selection of Xavier Legette affect the Carolina Panthers?

The preliminary results of the Panthers moving up in the 2023 NFL Draft to select Bryce Young overall have been deemed a failure, especially considering how the #2 pick, C.J. Stroud, has done. Regardless of how you feel about Bryce Young, Carolina has done much to improve his supporting cast and maximize his talents. That includes selecting Xavier Legette as the 32nd pick in this year’s draft.

Drafted out of South Carolina, Xavier Legette is 6’3″ and 224 lbs. However, don’t be fooled by his size. Legette also ran a 4.39 40-yard dash with a 40″ vertical. In a simplified way, he is big, fast, and strong. However, what Legette could do better is separate from defenders. For Xavier Legette to truly impact the Panthers’ offense, they must create ways of getting him the ball, similar to how the 49ers get Deebo Samuel the ball.

With the addition of Diontae Johnson and the return of Adam Thielen, the Panthers have three receivers who should help move the ball downfield. Drafting Ja’Tavion Sanders and Jonathon Brooks will improve the Panthers’ offense. Legette hopes to be a big part of Carolina’s renaissance.

However, I do not believe Legette moves the needle the same way that Marvin Harrison Jr. will in Arizona or Malik Nabers in New York. Instead, like Quentin Johnston, Legette may have more of an impact for the Chargers, making 40 receptions for 400 yards. It would be a good rookie year while Legette and the Panthers learn how to best use each other.

Dynasty Stock

Xavier Legette has a mediocre buzz around him after being drafted in the first round. His landing spot does not improve his stock because the Panthers have a new head coach and will ultimately have a new offense. How well the pieces fit into that offense will determine how high of a ceiling Legette possesses.

Legette’s stock may be down compared to before the draft. Many hoped he would end up on the Chiefs or the Bills, thus giving Legette a clear path to targets on a team with an established offense and quarterback. With the Panthers, there will be growing pains as Legette and Young figure out how to be successful NFL players while learning a new offense.

Rookie Draft Status

With his current landing spot factored in, Legette is clearly outside the first round of rookie drafts. In a previous SF mock draft I participated in, Legette was selected as the eighth pick in the second round. However, I see him more at the end of the second or early third round. I currently have him as my 11th-ranked rookie wide receiver.

My Current WR Rookie Rankings:

  1. Marvin Harrison Jr.
  2. Malik Nabers
  3. Rome Odunze
  4. Brian Thomas
  5. Xavier Worthy
  6. Keon Coleman
  7. Ladd McConkey
  8. Ja’Lynn Polk
  9. Ricky Pearsall
  10. Adonai Mitchell
  11. Xavier Legette
  12. Malachi Corley

The other position players that could be ahead of Legette are:

  1. Brock Bowers
  2. Jonathon Brooks
  3. Trey Benson
  4. Blake Corum
  5. Roman Wilson
  6. Marshawn Lloyd

These lists also don’t factor in the quarterbacks. In a 1 QB league, expect to see the following quarterbacks selected:

  1. Caleb Williams
  2. Jayden Daniels
  3. J.J McCarthy
  4. Drake Maye

And in Super Flex, add to the quarterback list:

  1. Michael Penix
  2. Bo Nix
  3. Spencer Rattler

So, you can expect Legette in the middle to end of the second round in 1QB leagues and early third in most SF leagues.

Trade Value

I assume Legette had more trade value before than after the draft, which is curious since he was a first-round selection. However, the Panthers’ offense doesn’t excite many fantasy managers at the current moment.

You must assess your roster construction before approaching any Xavier Legette trade. I have used our DynastyPros Trade Calculator to help project some trades whether you want to acquire or trade away Xavier Legette.

Xavier Legette

You could trade Legette for Jahan Dotson and a 2025 second in the first trade. I like Dotson a lot more with the Commanders drafting Jayden Daniels. So, I am showing you how to acquire some pieces to an offense I believe will significantly improve in 2024. This also allows your team to bolster its depth with players more likely to have a fantasy impact in 2024.

In the second trade, sending Dallas Goedert and a 2025 second can help you acquire Xavier Legette. At this point, we know who Goedert is in the Eagles’ offense — the third option at best. With the additions of Saquon Barkley and DeVante Parker and the drafting of Ainias Smith and Johnny Wilson, it is clear Goedert’s best fantasy football days may be behind him.
