2024 Dynasty Dilemma: Tank Dell

3 min read

Despite being short-lived, Tank Dell showed a little spark in his rookie season. The third-round draft pick put his talents on display with the Houston Texans before fracturing his fibula. The question is…

Will he be the same player?

2024 Dynasty Dilemma: Tank Dell

Reasons to Sell

Injury: The fact is Tank Dell fractured his fibula a little over halfway through his first season. Will he be the same player he was before he got injured? Only time will tell. The statistics show that most injured players in their returning season don’t perform as well as they did the prior year.

For example, star wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. only recorded 565 receiving yards with the Ravens in the 2023-2024 season after tearing his ACL with the Los Angeles Rams the year prior.

Competition: Unfortunately for Dell owners, the skills core for the Texans is top tier. Lining up beside him is new addition Stefon Diggs, who has proven himself to be one of the best receivers in the league with over six consecutive 1,000+ receiving-yard seasons. In addition to Diggs is the new star Nico Collins.

Although Collins made a name for himself this past year, he showed that his potential should not be taken for granted. Collins had almost 1,300 receiving yards on just 80 receptions for the year.

Along with Diggs, the Texans also added star running back Joe Mixon. Mixon may add another element to the offense now, as former Texans running back Devin Singletary didn’t perform as well as the team may have hoped. Joe Mixon could be the player the Texans need to get their run game going and alleviate some pressure off their quarterback.

Reasons to Buy

Performance: Before Tank Dell’s season ended, he put up some remarkable stats. He was the leading receiver through the games up to his final game before his season ended. Dell recorded a total of 709 receiving yards through just nine weeks and was on pace to break 1000 receiving yards in just his 13th game.

He was also a touchdown machine and a great deep threat for C.J. Stroud, reaching the end zone seven times and averaging about 15.1 yards per reception.

Youth: Tank Dell is just 24 years old and entering the second year of his young football career. He should only trend upward, assuming his injury doesn’t hinder him too much. Dell could be a great long-term option for fantasy owners, giving him time to grow since Nico Collins will be playing in the last year of his contract.

Trade Value: If you are optimistic about Tank Dell’s future, his trade value could be through the roof. He has shown that he is on par with some of the top receivers in the league as only a rookie! Dell could be worth a hefty price if he performs as he did in his rookie year. As I mentioned earlier, Nico Collins may be in his last year with the Texans, meaning a high upside for Tank Dell’s trade value in the near future.

Tank Dell

Verdict: Buy

Although Tank Dell may have a lot of competition, and his injury could seriously hinder his performance, his upside is too high to say no. Dell showed every time that he could be WR1, and quarterback C.J. Stroud will only help with his performance.

As a favorite target for the young QB, owners should expect another outstanding season from Tank Dell.
